The Sydney Morning Herald reported on 29 September 2026 that Smith was deemed surplus at the Roosters with Daly Cherry-Evans, Sam Walker, Hugo Savala and Toby Rodwell ahead of him. He has since arrived at the Knights as a back-up playmaker to Brown and Fletcher Sharpe.
