Fletcher Hunt has been unable to agree on a new deal with the Knights, Wide World of Sports reported on 8 September, and is set to test the open market on November 1. He remains contracted to Newcastle until the end of next season but can negotiate with rivals from that date, with the Newcastle Herald noting the club already concedes it is long odds to keep him beyond then.
